Cicada swarm by Heidi Zito

Today, I stopped into the studio for a moment to add a few paint strokes a new painting today. At first the strokes represented leaves on a branch, but as I kept laying them I started to see potential for a story that really resonated with my childhood and summers spent in Japan visiting family.

Late night painting session by Heidi Zito

I was tired after work but so glad I got my sleepy self to the studio in time (No caffeine for 2 weeks now!).  It went pretty well. I'm thrilled about this new painting I've started. Below is just a glimpse & I plan to post the final painting later once it's more complete. This one may involve a dog.  More to come.

Eventually Snow Melts by Heidi Zito

It was terribly snowy and cold today, but I'm so glad I went to the studio to start a new painting. Can't wait to see where it goes tomorrow.

Eventually Snow Melts

That doesn't mean that there isn't value in shoveling someone's walk.

Most things will get addressed sooner or later.

What happens if you take the side of sooner?

The naysayers will share plenty of reasons not to stick your neck out.

There are good reason to ignore those skeptics: Because it matters. Because we need your leadership. Because now is better than later.

Update on untitled night scene painting by Heidi Zito

The title of a painting usually comes after the painting is done. So I will call this "night scene painting" for now.  I'm really happy with the way the nature elements and the building has developed together. In my next few sessions, I'm going to push their harmony a bit further.  Also, create more movement in the leaves to represent a time lapse or a heavy wind.

Getting to the Studio by Heidi Zito

Some days are harder to get going than others. I haven't been able to get to the studio as much I'd like. I've recently served two weeks of jury duty, and my job always takes more energy than I expect. However, I keep pushing myself to get myself to the studio and recharge my creative batteries.

The result of my continuing effort is a new painting. I had been playing with some new techniques while practicing some old ones, and I couldn't be happier with the results. It reminds me that it's always worth making an effort to get to the studio, even if it's just for a few strokes or to sit a stare at my current project. It keeps me engaged with with my work and craft.

The West by Heidi Zito

Went to Lake Tahoe for my boyfriend's best friends wedding. I am lucky to have met new faces, landscapes and painting inspirations.
